The redevelopment of the much-loved Colonnade and Pleasure Gardens will bring new facilities, investment, and opportunities to this area.
Together with our partners, and with feedback from the community, we've developed and revised exciting plans for both of these sites - and these plans have now been put in for planning permission. Subject to approval, work could start as soon as Easter 2023, complete for Easter 2024.
When complete, the Colonnade and Pleasure Gardens will be transformed, for both local people and visitors - now, and in the future - to experience and enjoy.

We've developed and revised the plans through working with our partners and listening to the community. Here's what is possible:
☑ Unique promenade access - with the building set back by 16 metres to ensure safety around sea defences, an access will connect the promenade to the new buildings
☑ Multi-use pavilion including:
- a sea view tearoom / restaurants
- gallery / exhibition/ function / community space
- a large sea view deck
- changing place toilets, toilets, and lift
- artisan studio space
☑ Beach huts on the promenade
☑ Two new craft studios
☑ Seasonal overnight sea view lodges
☑ The children's paddling pool, water feature, tennis courts will be kept and the areas around these will be improved, based on community feedback
☑ Planting, community gardens, extra walkways.
