LGA Corporate Peer Challenge
In November 2024, East Lindsey District Council welcomed Local Government Association colleagues to the authority as part of a Peer Challenge.
Peer Challenges are always an important process in supporting the development and improvement of Councils. They are not inspections but a way for Councils to share best practice and experience and to provide renewed focus. The Peers to take learning back with them following their visit.
The peer team made up of both Councillors and Officers considered the following five themes which form the core components of all Corporate Peer Challenges and are areas all critical to councils' performance and improvement:
1. Local priorities and outcomes
2. Organisational and place leadership
3. Governance and culture
4. Financial planning and management
5. Capacity for improvement
In addition, the Council asked the peer team to also explore:
- The council's plans around infrastructure development, regeneration and addressing deprivation, and what more it can do to deliver on its ambitions around those areas.
- How are the more flexible ways of working across the council being viewed by staff and other stakeholders and whether that is improving the council's visibility across the district.
At the end of the Challenge, the peers provided the Council with a report and recommendations.
The Council has now produced an Action Plan to take forward those recommendations. As part of its development, Overview Committee considered the Action Plan in detail and proposed an amendment as a result of their discussion, which has been incorporated.
The Action Plan was formally approved by Executive Board on Thursday, 19 February 2025.
Updates on the delivery of the Action Plan will be provided quarterly to the Overview Committee.
The peer team will return to East Lindsey District Council within 12 months for a follow up visit to see the progress being made and to make any further recommendations.
