We have a strong manufacturing and engineering heritage, underpinned by a highly skilled and loyal workforce and are home to world class companies.
This has played a part in providing a legacy of sites and skills, offering investors the opportunity to operate from a location that already boasts sector investment, existing supply chains and high profile manufacturing businesses. The sector employs c.4,500 people and can be divided into a number of specialisms, the largest of which is production of chemicals and plastics, which employs c.700 people. The fastest growing sub-sector since 2009 has been the manufacture of machinery, of which aircraft manufacture increased from c.50 to c.500 employees (reflecting the expansion of BAE at RAF Coningsby) - the subsector also includes the manufacture of agricultural machinery which has experienced significant growth. Additionally, we also specialise in the manufacture of paper and cardboard, textiles and workwear.
