East Lindsey's first 'Age Friendly Baseline Assessment Report'

The assessment process, led by Jane Berni, Age Friendly Principal Officer, began in 2019. With the progress being slightly delayed by the Covid-19 Pandemic. A collaborative approach was used, at both an operational and strategic level, taking account of services, local communities, policies and systems.

East Lindsey District Council (ELDC) have worked in partnership with YMCA Lincolnshire, through their TED Ageing Better Programme, to carry out the assessment and produce the report. Like much of the country and indeed globally, East Lindsey has a large and growing ageing population. ELDC has been explicit about its commitment to support people to live and age well and was successful in becoming the first District Council in the country to join the UK Network of Age-friendly Communities https://www.ageing-better.org.uk/uk-network-age-friendly-communities

Jane Adams, TED Programme Manager at YMCA Lincolnshire said "The TED Ageing Better programme, which ELDC has been a key member and champion of, has been active across the district since 2015. The publication of this report marks the end of a crucial step in continuing to understand the experiences of ageing in East Lindsey.  It also provides the outline for the next steps to ensure that the district can continue with its age friendly journey and be a place where people thrive as they grow older"

ELDC are now in an excellent position to move onto the next stage of their Age Friendly journey.  They will be applying to the World Health Organisation to become a member of the Global Network of Age Friendly Communities. They will continue to work with local communities and partner organisations to improve the social and built environment for older people in the near and distant future.
