Addlethorpe Platinum Jubilee Commemoration Planting.

Addlethorpe Parish Council were very fortunate in receiving funding from ELDC to create a long lasting tribute to mark the seventy year reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll.  The project is to plant seven Magnolia Brooklynesis "Elizabeth trees, one to mark each decade of her reign. These trees live for about eighty to one hundred and twenty years.  As well as marking the reign of her majesty they also add to the aspect of the village creating a new feature that is part of a continued desire of the Parish Council to enhance the quality of spaces in the village for residents. They also in the seeded cones they produce are a source of food for wildlife.

Proposed site for the seven "magnolia  Brooklynensis Elizabeth" trees to be planted adjacent to the village green in the centre of Addlethorpe village.

As well as planting the trees the Parish Council is hoping to cut back some of the trees that surround the village green to reveal more of the 15th century St. Nicholas Church which has become more hidden over the past ten years. The plan is not to drastically cut the trees and foliage back as it makes an excellent sound barrier to traffic noise for residents who live in Old Church Road, but to manage the view of Addlethorpe's central feature maintaining one of a number of aspects of the village.

Because of the nature of trees and their growth cycle the planting will take place in early October.

The trees that will be planted are 150cm -200 cm tall and will take two tears to establish themselves below is a mock-up of what the trees will look like after approximately ten years.
