Over the past two years, a dedicated project has been making significant strides in addressing the long-standing waste issues on Prince George Street, Skegness. This initiative, aimed at combating persistent waste problems, has seen the implementation of several effective measures, resulting in a cleaner and more compliant community.

The project began with a focus on commercial waste compliance. Environmental Protection Act 1990 Section 34 Notices were issued to all businesses in the area, requesting their commercial waste arrangements. This led to the issuing of a Fixed Penalty Notice to one business, which was promptly paid. As a result, all businesses in the vicinity are now compliant with commercial waste regulations, ensuring proper waste management practices are in place.

In addition to visiting businesses to make sure they comply with the law, the project also aimed to educate the local community. Education letters were distributed to all residential properties, raising awareness about responsible waste disposal. Copies of these letters were also sent to landlords, meaning that everyone involved was informed and encouraged to participate in maintaining a clean environment.

To further enforce waste regulations, enforcement officers were deployed to the area. Their presence not only provided a deterrent but also allowed for the inspection of waste and the gathering of evidence. Several investigations are currently ongoing as a result of these efforts. A final letter was sent to all businesses, residents, and landlords, advising that any waste left in the area would be considered fly-tipping, with potential enforcement actions for offenders.

Throughout this project, the cleansing team and neighbourhood services have played a crucial role, working tirelessly to clear the large amounts of waste that had accumulated over time. Their support has been invaluable in maintaining the cleanliness of Prince George Street.

A significant milestone in this project was the installation of a CCTV camera. Provided and installed by Kingdom L A Support, this camera will help monitor the area and deter illegal dumping, ensuring that waste issues are promptly addressed.

This project is still going on, with continuous monitoring and actions being taken as necessary. Enforcement officers will continue to support these efforts, conducting patrols and enforcing regulations to combat environmental crime as they do across the district. Their work also includes enforcing the Public Space Protection Order (Dog fouling and the seasonal beach restrictions), investigating fly-tipping, and ensuring business waste compliance.

Cllr Martin Foster, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services at East Lindsey District Council, said: "I am incredibly proud of the progress made on Prince George Street. This project demonstrates our commitment to tackling environmental issues head-on and ensuring our community remains clean and safe. The collaborative efforts of our teams and partners have been instrumental in achieving these results, and we will continue to work diligently to maintain these standards."
