Commercial Waste

All businesses need to ensure they have adequate waste arrangements in place.

Our authorised officers can request copies of Waste Transfer Notes at any time dating back for up to two years, by serving notice on a business owner. Failure to comply with this request will result in a £300 Fixed Penalty Notice so it is important that accurate records are kept.

Failure to provide a copy of Waste Transfer Notes is an offence and if found guilty there is an unlimited fine in Magistrates Court.

Please be aware that when waste is removed from commercial premises a document called a Waste Transfer Note must be produced, and retained for a period of two years by the producer of the waste and the waste carrier.

If you wish to check to see if a waste carrier is registered you can check using the online Public Register on the Government's website.

Please note that Commercial Waste cannot be disposed of at a Household Waste Recycling Centre or in a domestic waste bin at home.

If you have concerns that a business is not disposing of their waste in the correct manner, please contact the Environmental Crime Team by emailing environmental.crime@e-lindsey.gov.uk. You may be asked to complete a witness statement or provide further supporting evidence.
