Litter
30 Million tonnes of litter are dropped each year in Britain, according to a recent Keep Britain Tidy survey. In addition to our regular street cleaning service, we also try to help reduce litter through supporting community litter picks, and also through enforcement.
Community Litter Picks
The Council is in support of community groups completing litter picks in their area. Please see the PDF document for further information.

Littering Enforcement
We issue Fixed Penalty Notices for depositing litter in the open air and out of a motor vehicle. Small items such as cigarette ends and chewing gum are still classed as litter.
The offence can be dealt with through a Fixed Penalty Notice, failure to pay the FPN can result in a prosecution with a maximum fine of £2,500.
From 13th May 2024 the Fixed Penalty Notice for littering is set at £250 or if paid within 10 days the amount is reduced to £150
Littering can be reported online.
Please be advised that this may require you to submit a formal witness statement which we can use to support any further action we may need to take.
Our Environmental Crime Officers regularly patrol the District and will take action to deal with littering hotspots and incidents.
