Scrutiny
Overview and Scrutiny is a process that independently challenges the Council, Executive Board and other public bodies to hold them to account.
The Committees work in a similar way to the Parliamentary Select Committee system and give Councillors the power to champion issues and challenge Council leaders and officers on behalf of their constituents.
Overview and Scrutiny can also make a valuable contribution in pre decision work on policy and strategy development.
How Overview and Scrutiny works in East Lindsey
The Council has established an Overview Committee. As Scrutiny is an independent function, Executive Board Members may not serve on this Committee.
The Overview Committee determines the areas for scrutiny and the terms of reference for the review. Topics are then allocated to overview, a scrutiny and policy panel, or a working group.
The Overview Committee has the power to summon Members of the Executive Board and Officers to appear before them to answer questions.
The Committee meets approximately every six weeks. The meeting dates and recommendations are published on the website.
Getting involved
Members of the community are encouraged to get involved in the scrutiny process either by contributing evidence, attending meetings or suggesting new topics for review.
