How to Appeal your Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support Decision.

Requesting a reconsideration of a Housing Benefit/Council Tax Support Decision:

If we make any decision on your claim we will tell you when your benefit starts, the amount of benefit you have been awarded and how it has been worked out.

You should always check your award letter carefully to ensure that all of your details are correct.

If you think your benefit is wrong you should reply to our letter by writing and explaining why you think this is the case. You need to do this within one month of the date shown on your award letter and ask for us to look at it again. If you provide it later than a month you will need to provide good reasons as to why you are making a late request.

Please note there is no time limit to request a reconsideration of a Council Tax Support Decision.

Communicating our decision to you:

We will contact you once we have looked at your request and explain our decision to you.

If  our decision cannot be changed we will advise you what you will need to do next, if you still disagree.

If we can amend it you will receive a new award letter explaining your new entitlement.
