Students & Apprentices
When looking at the number of adults living in a property, certain students or apprentices may not be counted.
Students
If you, or someone in your household, is a full time or qualifying student you may be entitled to a Council Tax reduction.

Those leaving school or college who are aged 18-19 year olds, may receive a further discount once their course ends - contact us to discuss this.
Other student exemptions available are where the property has been left empty by a student owner and for student halls of residence.
Apprentices
If you, or someone in your household is an apprentice and meets the Council Tax criteria, you may receive a Council Tax discount.
Complete the apprentice application form (PDF, 125 KB)(opens new window) and provide a copy of the apprenticeship agreement and wage slips.

Change in Circumstances
If you qualify then you must tell us within 21 days if there is a change that might affect it. We can impose a £70 penalty if you do not tell us about a change. Keep us informed of changes on counciltax@e-lindsey.gov.uk or by calling 01507 601111.

Q. Do I get a discount if my partner is a student?
A. Possibly. If there are only two adults living in the property then you may receive a 25% discount.
Q. My child is a student but does not meet the Council Tax criteria for a student - can I still get a discount?
A. If Child Benefit is in payment for them we may be able to consider a discount. We will need the number of adults in the property and a copy of the Child Benefit award letter.
Q. My child is going to university and will be moving into student accommodation. Do I need to let you know?
A. If this change leaves two or more adults in the property and you do not receive a reduction, there is no need to let us know.
