Through registering you interest in self-build you will be assisting the council in ascertaining the demand for custom and self-build plots in East Lindsey along with providing information on where there is demand for plots and for what type of house you wish to build.

The information provided will be used to explore ways in which people and plots may be brought together. Registration does not however guarantee that a suitable plot will be identified, or become available.

The register will not be a public document, but we may publish headline data from it annually.

What is self-build and custom build?

Until recently building your own home was simply known as 'self-build', in 2011, the term 'custom build housing' was introduced in the Government's Housing Strategy for England.

Self-build projects are defined as those where someone directly organises the design and construction of their own home. This can cover a wide range of projects including a traditional DIY self-build home to projects where the self-builder employs someone to build their home for them.

Custom-build describes a more 'hands-off' approach where a specialist developer co-ordinates the whole process for the people involved.
