Shoreline Management Plans
Shoreline Management Plans (SMP) are prepared by a number of organisations, including the Environment Agency and us.
Together we assess the risks associated with coastal processes and to help to reduce risks to people and the developed, natural and historic environments of the coastline. Coastal processes include tidal patterns, wave height and direction, and the movement of beach and seabed materials.
Two SMPs have been prepared covering the East Lindsey Coastline. The Humber Estuary to Gibraltar Point SMP covers most of the District's coastline. The remainder of the District is covered by Wash SMP which covers the area between Gibraltar Point to Hunstanton. These high level, strategic documents determine the best way to manage any risks on our coastline, including flood risk and coastal erosion, for the next 100 years.
