Fly Tipping

We have spent more than 6000 hours clearing over 1200 fly tips in the last year. You can help to reduce this figure - See it, Stop it!

Fly tipping is the unauthorised deposit of waste on land, and includes anything from one black bag on the side of the road to ten tonnes of rubble dumped down a quiet lane.

We will not remove fly tips from private land, this is the landowner's responsibility.

Where we have been notified of fly tipped waste and enforcement issues have been dealt with, we aim to remove the waste within 10 working days.

If you see any fly tipping please contact us using the report form. Please make a note of as many details as you can.

If you are caught fly tipping or we trace you as being responsible following evidence found in a fly tip you can receive a fixed penalty notice of £1000 (which will be reduced to £550 if paid within 10 days)

Householder's Duty of Care

You are legally responsible for disposing of your rubbish correctly.  If your rubbish is illegally deposited you could receive a fixed penalty notice of £600 (which will be reduced to £400 if paid within 10 days) If you don't pay the fixed penalty you could be fined up to £5,000 in the magistrate's court.

If someone else disposes of your rubbish for you, make sure you have their name, address, vehicle description and vehicle registration number. Any person that takes payment for removing your rubbish must be licensed. Always ask to see a copy of their licence.

If you are in any doubt as to whether someone is licensed you can check via the following:
